The CD Lady Rams walked onto Coach Lebo Court in Carlisle’s Gene Evans Gym tonight coming off a stretch of games that was unfamiliar territory for Coach Randy Gambelunghe’s teams in recent years. Three losses in their last four games, albeit to some strong opponents, had probably left some doubts in some of the younger players’ minds.
Were they the team who went into that stretch on an eight-game winning streak, and loaded with confidence? Or the one who may have since developed some newfound doubt? Well, they walked out Evans Gym with a forty point win, and a much-needed Mid-Penn Commonwealth division win. The final…74-34.
Senior guard Sam Gress led all scorers with 27 … 21 via the long ball. Her 27 points put her back into the top-five in Mid-Penn Conference scoring. Her seven 3-pointers pushed her season total to 39, comfortably ahead of her closest challenger. And Gress is now just 71 points from reaching 1,000 for her career.
Freshman forward Caroline Shiery (pictured above) added a career-high 18. Fellow big, junior Audrey Weigl, added 9. The team’s 74 points was their biggest output of the season.
Up next for the Lady Rams is a long drive Friday to Altoona, and a very tough Lady Mountain Lions team waiting for them. The Lions boast three of the Mid-Penn’s best players, and will be looking to avenge a loss to the Rams back on December 17th.
