SCHEDULE CHANGE – Rams face Cougars for D-3 gridiron crown

CD RAMS FOOTBALL SCOUTING REPORT
Championship Game
District 3 – Class 6A Playoffs

Central Dauphin vs Harrisburg Cougars

Game scheduled for Nov. 16 has been postponed due to field conditions until Friday, Nov. 23, at Central York High School at 7 pm until Saturday, Nov. 17, at Landis Field in Colonial Park with a 6 pm kickoff, according to PIAA District 3 website.

The Rams are looking to turn the tables on Harrisburg after losing 20-5 to the Cougars in week #4 of the season at Landis Field. After trailing 5-0 at the half, the Cougars torched the Rams for 20 points in the third quarter on two touchdown passes and a pick-6 to grab the win.

Defense was the bright spot for the Rams in the September game. They held the high-scoring Cougars to only 20 points, the lowest point total by area teams. Only Coatesville, the state’s second ranked team, did better in a week #1 game when the Cougars only had 6 points.

The winner of Friday’s game takes home the PIAA District 3 – Class 6A crown and moves into state tournament play.

LAST WEEK: The Rams were clicking on all phases of the game and rolled over the Manheim Township Blue Streaks 27-0 on a drizzly night in Lancaster County.

COACH INTERVIEW – GLEN MCNAMEE

CD head football coach Glen McNamee was upbeat about the team’s practice sessions this week for the D-3 championship game.

Coach Mac (wearing winter hat) talks with a Fox 43 reporter following last week’s win over Manheim Twp.

Despite winter storm Avery causing a short school day Thursday, McNamee said the team was granted permission to put in some practice time while classes were taking place.

He’s hoping the Rams offense can avoid untimely penalties that put several drives off schedule in the team’s regular season game against the Cougars.

The team moved the ball, but couldn’t find the end zone. In fact, the Rams had one of their best passing games against the Cougars, completing 21 passes to nine different receivers, said McNamee.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – HARRISBURG COUGARS

The Cougars are led offensively by senior quarterback Kane Everson, #7, who will be playing college ball for the Army Black Knights. Everson is fast and elusive and gave the Rams defenders headaches while trying to track him down earlier this season. Last season, he rallied the Central East Panthers to a victory over the Rams.

Look for Everson to target junior wide receiver Donte Kent, #9, who recorded a touchdown against the Rams in teams’ first meeting.

On defense for the Cougars, keep an eye out for hard-hitting, junior linebacker Jai Burney, #4.

The Cougars rolled over Wilson last Saturday 36-12 to get into the district championship tilt with the Rams.
