A panel of local high school sports experts chose Harrisburg High quarterback Kane Everson as “Linglestown Gazette Sports 2018-2019 Male Athlete of the Year.” Everson was the offensive leader of a phenomenal Cougars team who went 14-2, and captured both the Mid-Penn Commonwealth division and District-3 class 6A titles before finishing the season as runners-up in the state.
He was a two-way threat in the pocket, passing for 2,472 yards and 28 touchdowns, while adding 925 yards and 8 more TDs on the ground. He also recorded two interceptions as a defensive back on the Cougars vaunted “Darkside Defense.” Some of his many individual accomplishments include a spot on the Class 6A All-State team, along with PennLive’s “Football Offensive Player of the Year” and “Male Athlete of the Year” awards.
Said LG Sports director Joe Gilloway of Everson, “I had a great time covering high school football this past year, but nothing was more gratifying than watching Kane Everson play quarterback. He stood alone in [the Central PA] area. I didn’t see an individual defender bring him down in the open field all season. That’s saying something. And he played at the highest level against the best defenses in the state. No one slowed him down.”
Everson will continue his academic and football careers at The College of William & Mary.
